DR. SISSY SARTOR: I am Sissy Sartor. I'm a reproductive endocrinologist infertility specialist. My training began at Tulane School of Medicine and I completed medical school in 1981 and then went on to complete an OBGYN residency as well at Tulane University School of Medicine. After I finished there I moved to the D.C. area and was a general OBGYN practitioner for several years. During that time I had the opportunity to take care of several patients that had problems with fertility and really enjoyed the interaction that I had and the ability to impact and help them at such a difficult time in their lives.
While I was in general practice I experienced a little bit of frustration because I was able to take these patients to a certain point in their therapy and then had to hand them over to the fertility specialist. Additionally during that time there were a lot of really exciting advances going on in the area of fertility and I decided because of those various issues that I would go complete a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology, which I did at Georgetown in 1990. And since then have pretty much been in practice and have moved to several places and am now at the Fertility Institute in New Orleans.
I have always maintained an association with a medical school so have also participated in teaching residents. I am an associate clinical professor at the school of, at LSU, Louisiana State University. And we do have residents on a regular basis rotate through with us. So it's a very enjoyable interaction to be able to teach and at the same time work closely with our patients in helping them.
