MELANIE: I'm Melanie and this is my husband Billy. And we discovered that we had some extra challenges with fertility and my doctor recommended that we come to the Fertility Institute.

BILLY: We just did our research and decided this is where we wanted to go and we did have some friends that had gone through the process before us and they had a doctor, Dr. Lu, and they recommended him. So that's, we came to the Fertility Institute and had a consultation with Dr. Lu and from there we got the ball rolling.

MELANIE: We were fortunate in that, well, however you look at it, fortunate or unfortunate. We had male factor infertility as well as my PCOS so we were kind of able to bypass a bunch of the preliminary stuff, the IUIs and the clomids and the, all the kind of stuff. And we just went straight into in vitro.

So we began the in vitro and of course you always think it's going to work immediately. And with all of our challenges it was, it didn't work right off the bat but it was experimental and we learned maybe how to shift some drugs and do something a little bit different. That first cycle was cancelled.

Our fifth cycle we were finally able to get my uterine lining to, it was really an interesting story. We, I went in and it was seven millimeters and that was a really huge big deal for us. And then, you know, I was doing acupuncture at the same time and so we went in to do the actual embryo transfer.

We had two that had survived the thaw and looked really good and Dr. Lu was looking at the ultrasound screen and he goes, This can't be. This can't be you. This can't be Melanie. And I was, like, why? And he goes your uterine lining is 10 millimeters. And so we just couldn't believe it and they transferred the two embryos and one made it and we are now pregnant, but it worked. And we're excited.

And the staff here was incredible. They really were very patient with us and I had lots and lots and lots of questions and would email and call and they were always extremely accommodating and I really, I cannot imagine going through this without a support system like they had.

Between Lisa and Dr. Lu and Susan the phlebotomist and Sadie the ultrasound technician. I mean just everybody. Susie helping with the finances and I mean it was just, and Linda the receptionist. I mean everybody was incredible and...

BILLY: Right. And they listened to us, too. And if we didn't right about something, they were there to look into it and make it right. So definitely had a lot of support.

MELANIE: Yeah. We couldn't have been happier.
